We need new caretakers

for our Community Centre

Contact Us

Moora Moora wishes to appoint new caretakers. The caretakers' role is to assist in keeping the community centre in good order and to be an intermediary between visitors and the community.

Closing date for applications is 31st August, 2008

We would like a couple (although single people will also be seriously considered) to live in, and love, our community centre ("The Lodge"). Moora Moora is organised into 'clusters,' and members are focused on their own mini-community. So, over the years, we have sought non-members as caretakers -- people whose particular interest is caring for where they live -- the Lodge. Some of these caretakers have become members and moved to a cluster. Others have stayed a part of our community for a while, then moved on.

Benefits

  • Rent-free living in a small self-contained flat within the Lodge. It has two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, bathroom-toilet, and a boot room.
  • Free access to solar electricity with a generator backup.
  • Free LP gas for cooking and a fridge.
  • Free internet access..
  • Most important of all, being a part of a vibrant and interesting community in a location of beauty and power.

    Responsibilities

  • Being a friendly, welcoming presence in the Lodge. This does not mean 24/7.
  • Answering the telephone. Where necessary this means answering messages on an answering service.
  • Looking after visitors (including WWOOFs for about 9 months of the year).
  • Preparing for Co-op meetings and other functions. For example, ensuring there is hot water when needed, lighting a fire in cool weather, etc.
  • 8 hours of work a week, including putting out and retrieving rubbish bins for the community, keeping the Lodge clean, ensuring firewood storages are filled, reprting any need for repairs or maintenance to the relevant person. When there are WWOOFs, they usually work with the Caretaker on a regular basis.
  • Taking part in community activities, including our monthly workday.
